INSPIRED by the wild west, St Helens Primary School held a Victorian-style Christmas fair.

Organised by the PTA to celebrate the school staying open under reorganisation plans, its hall was turned into a Victorian street, complete with toy, book and music shops.

All the helpers wore Victorian costumes and other features included a Victorian Christmas tree, fire place and Santa’s grotto, plus a host of craft stalls.

Families were invited to have their photographs taken in costume and the event raised £800, which will be used by the school to buy a new stage.

"We have a fair every year but this year the PTA wanted to do it on more of a grand scale and all the hard work paid off because it was a fantastic day," said headteacher Jane Loader.
