AN APPEAL for new volunteers has been launched by YMCA Young Carers on the Isle of Wight.

The group supports young people on the Island who care for loved ones and has appealed for people who can help with respite events.

It organises events throughout the year to give young carers the chance to relax and have fun and needs volunteers to help supervise them.

"At the moment we have about 20 bank volunteers. They are people with experience of working with young people, such as parents or people who work in schools.

"During all the school holidays we put on respite activities for young carers and the volunteers supervise them, making sure everyone is safe and having a good time," said Kelly Edwards, of IW YMCA Young Carers.

Volunteers must be aged over 21 and will be subject to a CRB check.

"We hope people will be able to commit to at least one activity a holiday," said Kelly.

Anyone interested in getting involved can e-mail kelly.edwards@ymca-fg.org or call (01983) 861071
