North London MEP Pauline Green has been named as a possible candidate for the mayor of London.
Ms Green revealed her interest in the role during an appearance on the television political programme Crosstalk on Sunday.
She said anyone concerned with politics and government in London would be interested in the mayoral role.
But a spokesman for Ms Green -- who is also leader of the Socialist Group in the European Parliamant -- said: "It's too early for a full announcement. She's really focused on her job as an MEP and leader of the Socialist Group and is looking towards the European elections next year.
"I wouldn't expect any really big announcement until nearer the time, but obviously think she is a creditable candidate otherwise they wouldn't link her name with the job."
Lord Archer and Ken Livingstone are the well known political names touted as mayoral contenders.
Labour party officials are expected to meet this week to decide on how it will select its candidate.
