Warning for heavy rain on the Isle of Wight

A WARNING for heavy rain has been issued for the Isle of Wight by the Met Office.

The yellow 'be aware' warning is in force for tomorrow (Wednesday) from midnight until 9pm.

The Met Office said: "A band of heavy rain will move eastwards across many parts of the UK on Wednesday, reaching western parts by the small hours.

"The heavy rain will continue east, clearing southeastern areas by early Wednesday evening. The rain is likely to be accompanied by gusty winds. This will be followed by scattered heavy showers giving some locally thundery downpours.

"The public should be aware of the risk of localised surface water flooding which could lead to disruption to travel. The main risk of this is particularly associated with the heavy showers later in the morning and during the afternoon."
