CASH WELCOMED: Harrow West MP Gareth Thomas has welcomed the announcement of new cash for health services in the borough.

Health Secretary Alan Milburn has allocated Brent and Harrow Health Authority an extra £6.46 million for 2000/01, and funding for new cancer treatment equipment at Mount Vernon Hospital in Northwood has come from the New Opportunities Fund.

Mr Thomas said: 'I welcome this boost to funding for general health services in Harrow and confirmation of investment in powerful new cancer facilities at Mount Vernon.

'I always put Harrow first and am delighted that lobbying for Mount Vernon has paid off.'

SCHOOL AWARD: Hatch End High School in Headstone Lane, Hatch End, has been given a grant of £7,000 to fund a community drama project.

Pupils will write a series of sketches on problems affecting young people, such as bullying, personal safety and health. The project is being run in conjunction with Harrow Young PersonsÍ Centre and a liaison officer from Harrow police.

The cash comes from Barclays New Futures, which claims to be the country's biggest educational sponsorship scheme. Schools receiving a share of more than £1 million will also get other resources and professional support for their projects

DOLPHIN TALK: Members of Hatch End (Evening) TownswomensÍ Guild will hear a talk about dolphins at their meeting at 7.30pm on April 27 in the scout hall behind he main car park off Uxbridge Road. Visitors will be welcome.

The guild has a number of special interest groups covering such topics as books, embroidery, music and swimming, and trips to places of interest are often held. For further details, ring 0181 428 6551.

COUNCIL CABINET: Representatives of the three parties on Harrow Council will talk about the new cabinet government of the borough at a meeting organised by the Stanmore Society at Stanmore library at 8pm on Tuesday next week.

The society's annual meeting will be at the Bernays Memorial Hall in The Broadway at 8pm on June 8.

WITNESS WALK: The annual Good Friday Walk of Witness organised by the Christian churches of North Harrow will this year begin at Rayners Lane Baptist Church in Imperial Drive, North Harrow, at noon, and finish at St George's Parish Church in Pinner View.

MARATHON MAN: James Myring of Gayton Court, Harrow, will run the London Marathon on Sunday in aid of St John Ambulance.
