MOTORISTS have been warned to be alert after a spate of thefts from cars.
Isle of Wight Police are investigating after three cars were broken into between 2pm and 3.30pm yesterday (Sunday).
Two of the cars were parked in Merstone Old Station car park, near the cycle track, and a third was in Leeson Road, Ventnor, when they were broken into.
All three had windows smashed and handbags stolen.
A police spokeswoman said that in two of the incidents, the handbags were hidden underneath seats.
PC Hayley Clayton said: "Please don’t leave valuables in your car which may attract opportunist thieves.
"Even if you are just leaving your vehicle for a short time, take everything with you and make sure everything is secure and locked."
Anyone with any information about any of these incidents can contact PC Clayton at Newport Police Station by phoning 101.
Mini-com users can contact 01962 875000. Information can be given anonymously by phoning the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
