MUSIC festival fans have been warned about the risks of buying tickets from disreputable sources after a teenager was jailed for 21 months for a Bestival ticket scam that left hundreds of people out of pocket.
Benjamin Hyland-Ward, 19, of Westfield Avenue South, Saltdean, who pleaded guilty to nine counts of fraud by false representation, will serve his sentence in a young offenders’ institution.
He took around £60,000 from around 375 people who were hoping to get cheap tickets for the former Isle of Wight event.
Investigator Amber Forshaw-Briant said: "This has been a long and complex investigation involving a large number of people and we’d like to thank those involved for their patience and assistance. We would also like to take this opportunity to remind people about the risks involved by purchasing tickets through sources that aren’t reputable and that is the offer is too good to be true, the likelihood is that it is."
