TINY members of West Wight Sports Centre’s swimming tots group — supported by armbands or parents swum widths or lengths of the pool in Splashathon 2009, raising sponsorship for the baby charity, Tommy’s.
The event was organised by swimming teacher Shirley Miles.
She said: "It was a very good turnout and ten little ones, who are members of the group, were sponsored. Mums and ten babies up to the age of two in the babies group were also sponsored and were joined by four on the day — including one babe of just five weeks old.
"The babies were propelled by their mums to do a length of the pool.
"We won’t know how much was raised until the sponsorship comes in for a charity we have supported since 2004 and for which we have raised more than £1,000."
Across the country, Tommy’s is hoping to beat last year’s total of £60,000, making it the most successful Splashathon ever.
Tommy’s supports research into the causes of miscarriage, premature birth and stillbirth.
