A CELEBRATION of all things nautical is taking place at Cowes Yacht Haven next Friday, May 30.
On the Water 2014, the first event of its kind on the Island, features windsurfing displays, RIB rides and a safety at sea display by the RNLI, as well as a host of other on-the-water activities provided by Cowes-based UKSA.
The free event has been organised by the British Marine Federation (BMF) and is supported by the County Press, as well as UKSA, Cowes Harbour Commission, the RNLI and Red Funnel, as well as BMF South. In the yacht haven, there will be a number of boats made on the Island on display, including a Seaward 29, a Shearwater 10m and a 24m catamaran made by Island-based South Boats.
There will also be boat trips on Island-manufactured boats. The event runs between 10am and 4pm and culminates with a barbecue on the Quayside.
Chris Clayton, chairman of the BMF IW Group, said: "On the Water is an event that is running nationally during May’s Water Sports Month, which is sponsored by the BMF.
"It aims to encourage people to be involved in water-based activities, from canoeing to yachting and motor boats, whatever we can do to encourage people to get interested and excited about water-based activities."
