TO mark HM The Queen's Golden Jubilee of her Accession to the Throne this year, Gerrards Cross Community Association is to plant an oak tree at the Memorial Centre on East Common.

Three Cypress trees that surround an ash tree in front of the Royal British Legion building are to be cut down. The ancient ash, which has a preservation order on it, will then be joined by the newly planted oak to make a feature in a new garden.

BUCKS Continuing Education Service is holding a study day examining English Portrait Miniatures on Saturday week. The Saturday School at the Memorial Centre will be followed by an optional visit to the Victoria & Albert Museum in London the following weekend where the tutor Dr Robert Edwards will examine the explosion of talent of the 18th century miniature painters.

A series of one-day courses going ahead at the Memorial Centre on Saturday week include Trace Your Family Tree, Art, Garden Design, Designing with Colour, Curtains and Austrian/Festoon Blinds, Cake Decorating and Neuro-Linguistic Programming. To book a place call 01753 650035.

AS part of the World Book Day on Thursday, the Gerrards Cross Library Reading Group will discuss The Remains of the Day by K Ishiguro at the Station Road library at 11am. All are welcome to the library to take part or to listen to the discussion.

BEACONSFIELD is to have its own Farmers Market, which should be of interest to local residents who would like to support British farming and in particular local producers. The first is to be held on Saturday, March 23 at Windsor End in Old Beaconsfield. Meat, game, vegetables and cheeses will be among the locally produced items on sale.

THE National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain is to perform works by Sibelius and Elgar at the Barbican Centre on Sunday, April 14, and the Gerrards Cross Concert-goers group will be there. ELIZABETH Farrar will talk about Pansies, Violas and Sweet Violets when the Gerrards Cross Horticultural Society enjoys its monthly gathering at the Memorial Centre on Thursday evening. The talk starts at 8pm.

AN open forum for members will follow the AGM of the Gerrards Cross Sailing Association on Wednesday evening. The evening gets underway at the Memorial Centre at 8pm.

THE Computer Club holds its monthly meeting at the Memorial Centre on Thursday evening at 8pm when Scanning To Your Computer will be the subject under discussion.
