Weather warning for heavy rain

Wednesday, November 21, 2012 - 15:30

UPDATED WEDNESDAY 15:31
A WARNING for heavy rain due to hit the Isle of Wight tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday, has been updated by the Met Office.

The warning, which was first issued yesterday (Tuesday), said heavy rain was expected shortly after midnight tomorrow morning.

The Met Office has now said the heavy rain is not expected until 4am. It is expected to last the rest of the morning. The warning now only covers the West Wight.

The Met Office said: "A spell of very wet and very windy weather is expected to move west to east across many parts of the UK during Thursday. Coming so soon after the heavy rain which fell in places earlier in the week this is likely to provoke further issues with flooding. Additionally, winds will gust to 50 to 60 mph in places, and could exceed 70 mph in some exposed western areas.

"In view of the wind and rain combination, the public should be prepared for some transport disruption."

Another warning has been issued for the Island, west of Ryde in the north and St Catherine's Point in the south, valid from 00.05am to 5am on Friday.

The Met Office said: "Heavy rain, accompanied by locally squally winds will continue through the first hours of Friday, before clearing to the east before dawn."

A warning is also in force for the weekend.
