THE Isle of Wight Council has introduced a larger function room at its new Seaclose register office for use at weekends after an outcry from couples whose friends and relatives would be unable to attend their weddings.
As reported in the County Press last week, the authority is closing its register office in Northwood House from the end of September and relocate the service to its Seaclose offices, home of its planning HQ.
But the room was so small it could only hold four guests.
However, the council said this week it would offer that room, plus a larger room, subject to licensing, which would be available at weekends for up to 15 guests.
In addition, it was intending to license Ventnor Botanic Gardens for weddings and civil partnerships, so that couples could tie the knot against a backdrop of its unique and exotic plants.
It would be one of 25 other venues licensed for weddings on the Island.
