West Wight Solent Swim success

Swimmers from the West Wight Solent Swim arrive back to cheers on the Isle of Wight. Picture by Nathan Lewis.

IT WASN’T wild — but it was a bit on the choppy side for 64 cross-Solent swimmers.

The latest Wild West Solent Swim on Sunday was completed by 63 of the swimmers, with one retiring after inhaling water during the one-and-a-half-mile swim from Hurst Castle to Colwell.

They were welcomed ashore on the Isle of Wight by hundreds of people.

Each raised at least £250 for West Wight Sports Centre, which relies on fundraising to stay afloat, and expects to receive £30,000 from those who took part, who also supported other charities.
