AYLESBURY 0 - CARSHALTON ATHLETIC 1

Carshalton Athletic stunned Aylesbury on Saturday with a 1-0 win to book their place in the FA Cup's final qualifying round.

After last Tuesday night's 8-0 hammering at Harrow Borough the Robins came out fighting, earning some sweet revenge for their 1-0 opening day league defeat by the Ducks with a magnificent performance to defend their slender lead.

Aylesbury have conceded just one league goal at home this season but were blown away by a Junior Haynes strike in the 14th minute as Carshalton bounced back from their mid-week misery. Signed by the Robins from borough rivals Sutton United earlier this month, the striker buried his shot past Aylesbury's stunned keeper Richard Wilmot to set up a 4th Qualifying Round tie at home to either Salisbury or Hungerford on Saturday week.

Carshalton will know all about Salisbury if the West Country men win their replay after being drawn away to them in this weekend's FA Trophy. A draw on Saturday will see a replay at Colston Avenue on Tuesday followed by next weekend's possible third clash in the FA Cup.

Carshalton, rock bottom in the Ryman Premier with just two wins to their name all season, must believe their luck is changing after Saturday's morale-boosting victory. It must have looked that way to Aylesbury's fans who saw their men denied an 88th minute penalty and peppered Stuart Searle's goal for long periods of the second half as they searched in vain for an equaliser.

In between Kevin Smith blocked a shot on his line to preserve the Robins' lead although both Haynes and Richard Newbury spurned chances to make the tie safe.
