The I love Isle of Wight Milk campaign hopes to encourage more shops to sell Isle of Wight Milk.
A CAMPAIGN group fighting for the future of the Isle of Wight dairy industry has launched an online petition.
The I love Isle of Wight Milk campaign, which has called for more shops, schools and businesses on the Island to supply milk produced and processed locally, launched earlier this month.
The group’s petition was signed by more than 800 people at the Garlic Festival and those behind the campaign have created an online version to encourage more people to get behind the cause.
The petition can be signed on the campaign website thewightstuff.org
There are plans to create a list of shops that stock Isle of Wight milk and campaigners urged businesses that do to send their details to Mr Turner so they could be included.
About 80 per cent of milk produced on the Isle of Wight is transported off Island, a figure the I love Isle of Wight Milk Campaigners hopes to reduce.
They also hope to avoid the loss of any more Isle of Wight dairy farms. There were more than 300 in the 1960s, but that has reduced to just 16 now.
The group also said it hopes to help preserve the pastures of the Island, by securing the future of the dairy industry, as well as help the environment by reducing the distance milk is transported.
