PASSENGERS to and from the Isle of Wight will have to leave the car-decks on every crossing, Wightlink has announced.
To stop noisy public address announcements from disturbing neighbours of the ports at Portsmouth, Fishbourne, Lymington and Yarmouth, the ferry company has decided to make it policy that all passengers on their services will have to make their way to the lounges during the crossing.
A spokesperson said: "Guidance from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency means we have to clear the car-deck of all passengers whenever we are carrying hazardous goods such as aerosol deodorants, hairspray, and fire extinguishers, and that has meant a great increase in the number of announcements we have had to make.
"In an effort to reduce the disturbance to our neighbours at all ports we have reviewed our policy of passengers remaining on the car deck during crossings."
The new policy comes into effect on Monday, October 1, and any passengers that need assistance must request it when they arrive at the port.
