Winter League Division Three

Borehamwood Water Polo Club commenced their winter league programme with a 12-6 win at Harlow -- despite fielding only seven players.

The opening quarter began with Wood taking an early lead through Daniel Williams -- added to late on by John Atkinson.

The second quarter was in a similar vein to the first with Wood further extending their lead thanks to some strong attacking play.

Wood registered a further five goals with two from David Price, and Williams, John Moore and Atkinson all taking one apiece.

However, Harlow gained two goals following two major fouls. Though the quarter still closed 7-2 in Wood's favour.

Two goals from Harlow early in the third quarter caused flutters but John Moore steadied the ship for an 8-4 lead.

As Harlow tired Wood added four more goals in the fourth quarter. Two late Harlow goals made the final score 12-6.

In the Invitation Knockout Cup Wood's seniors thrashed Biggleswade 11-5 on the night -- overturning a four-goal deficit under water polo's handicap system.

Invitation Knockout Cup

Wood's seniors completed a good week as they beat Biggleswade at home progressing to the quarter finals of this season's Invitation Knockout Cup.

Wood needed to overturn a four goal deficit due to the handicap system -- and got off to a good start in the opening quarter after taking only 21seconds of play before Dax Cain scored.

But Wood were unable to add to this and the quarter closed at 2-0.

The second period started with Wood finding the net after 55 seconds with a goal from Mike Radford.

And ten seconds later Wood pulled the aggregate scores level thanks to John Atkinson.

Wood extended their lead with a brace of goals courtesy of David Price.

However Biggleswade hit back with two but this was answered by Price, who completed his hat trick, and closed the half 7-2 in Wood's favour.

By the third period play was slowing down with the only goal being notched up by Wood's skipper Richard Hime.

The pace was stepped up in the last period with both sides hitting three goals each. Wood's efforts were from a brace by Price taking his tally for the evening to five with the other supplied by Colin Unwin.

Wood's Man of the Match was David Price, and a spokesman for the side, said: "David certainly earned this recognition. Not only did he score five goals he also led the attack well and created chaos in Biggleswade's defence, creating chances for others."

Wood have been drawn away to Barking in the quarter finals of the Cup while this Thursday the seniors play host to Ilford in the Winter League.

WOOD: Chambers, Hime, Radford, Unwin, Atkinson, Price, Cain, Parkins.
