POLICE are appealing for witnesses of an assault that took place on a bus in Ventnor in the early hours of New Year's Day.
A 57 year old man was hit on the head and knocked unconscious on a busy bus and the attacker escaped through the bus' emergency exit.
The victim was taken to St Mary's Hospital and was treated for a bleed on the brain.
The attack took place at about 1.30am on New Year's day on a number three Southern Vectis bus. The victim got on at Spring Hill and the attacker is believed to have got on near Boots on the High Street.
A police spokesperson said: "The bus was busy at the time with partygoers and so we would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident.
"We’d particularly like to speak to two possible witnesses who were seen to be carrying guitar cases. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting 44170000128"
