A 90-YEAR-OLD woman has died following a collision with a motability scooter in Sandown.
Lillian Macey, 90, of Harlow, Essex, died yesterday (Thursday) at Salisbury Hospital, where she was being treated for leg injuries.
She was transferred there from St Mary’s Hospital on Wednesday.
Mrs Macey had walked across a zebra crossing in Sandown High Street on Tuesday morning when she was in collision with the motability scooter on the pavement. It was being driven by a 76-year-old Island man.
A post mortem examination is due to be carried out at Winchester by a Home Office pathologist.
A scooter driver is being interviewed by police.
Police are appealing for witnesses to contact Shanklin roads policing unit on 0845 045 45 45, quoting Operation Pen.
Acting Insp Paul Bailey said: "We need to hear from any witnesses who saw the collision or who saw the blue scooter being driven before the collision.
"It is important to reach any witnesses who may have been holidaying on the Isle of Wight and have returned to their homes."
