A woman trapped after high winds blew the awning off a caravan in Thorness on Friday night, was rescued by firefighters.

They were called to Thorness Bay Farm at around 9.30pm, to free the woman who was trapped inside.

Council highways engineers have been working to clear a number of trees toppled by high winds across the Island.

There have been reports of electricity wires sparking at Northwood and engineers have been sent to the scene, close to The Horseshoe Pub.
