AN ATTACK on a woman, in which she suffered a broken nose, fractured arm, extensive bruising and dental injuries, is being investigated by Isle of Wight police.
The attack on the 54-year-old woman happened at 12.25am yesterday (Sunday), as she was walking home in Caesars Road, Newport.
An Isle of Wight police spokeswoman said she was approached by a man who punched her and stole her black handbag, which contained a mobile phone, bank cards, make-up, keys and cash.
The attacker was described as white, about 6ft tall, bald, with a foreign accent.
Investigating Officer DS Gary Lyons of Newport DCID said: "This is a very unusual crime in the amount of violence used and occurred in a quiet residential area.
"This would have been a very frightening ordeal for the victim and I am appealing for anyone with any information about this incident to come forward.
"Were you in the area at the time? Did you see anyone matching the description hanging around the area or making their way from the scene?
"The stolen handbag is still missing, if you spot it please contact the police first and do not handle it.
"I would also like to appeal to anyone with private CCTV in the area to speak to us as this may help with our enquiries into identifying the suspect."
*Police have today (Thursday) issued a description of the suspect:

• Possibly with a slight tan
• Aged between 20 and 30 years old
• Around 5ft 10ins to 5ft 11ins tall
