KNITTERS of Wight are being asked to unite behind a charity campaign.

Age Concern Isle of Wight has decided to take part again in the Big Knit. The campaign is supported by Sainsbury’s and drinks company Innocent and Island knitters are being asked to knit the woolly bobble hats found on Innocent drinks in November.

Age Concern Isle of Wight will receive 25p from every smoothie drink sold with a knitted hat to support its work to help older people keep warm and healthy.

"Closing date for the hats is October 10 and we want to give Island knitters as much notice as possible in the hope we can smash last year’s total of 5,327 hats," said Age Concern Isle of Wight chief officer Jo Dare.

"We were amazed and gratified by the response last year from Islanders who had fun knitting as well as contributing to projects to keep older people safe and warm during winter."

People who want more information, or who want to help but cannot knit and have wool or needles to donate, can contact Kay Lunn on 01983 525282.
