Mitcham opened their league account with this comfortable win against Kings College Hospital.

The Mitcham pack quickly assumed a control that they never relinquished with Peter Brown, Chris Walters and John Fallon to the fore.

Neil Smith opened the scoring for Mitcham with a short range try before Neil Moseley added a second.

Kings College could only manage a penalty in reply and Mitcham led 10-3 at half-time.

The Mitcham pack continued to exert pressure in the second half but their backs too began to take a major role with Paul McLoughlin at fly-half getting the best out of centres Rob Quinn and Mark Lamble.

Gareth John at full back proved to be an inspired substitution as he jinked and ran from beneath his own posts before releasing `Alf' Garnett under the KCS posts to score. McLoughlin converted before adding a penalty.

Kings College Hospital scored a late consolation try to leave the final score 23-8 to Mitcham. Mitcham's man of the match was Paul McLoughlin
