A LIFEBOAT was called to assist a yacht that struck underwater rocks off the Isle of Wight yesterday morning (Monday).

Cowes RNLI Lifeboat was launched after the 38ft Liberty lost steerage off Egypt Point, Cowes, when it lost part of its rudder.

However, before the lifeboat arrived at the scene, Liberty managed to make it to East Cowes Marina under its own steam, said an RNLI spokesman.
