A 40 FOOT yacht ran aground on rocks off the Isle of Wight yesterday (Sunday) leading to a call for Cowes RNLI lifeboat.

The yacht, Fair Return, radioed for help after going aground at Salt Meat Lodge, off Newtown, according to an RNLI spokesman.

The lifeboat launched at 1.45pm and used one of the yacht’s ropes to help free it. A spokesman said the Fair Return was then able to free itself and motor free, undamaged.
