A YACHT with engine and sail problems needed the help of the Bembridge RNLI lifeboat off the Isle of Wight last night (Wednesday).

In deteriorating weather conditions, the 32’ Contessa yacht "Minstral Buoy" was in difficulty near the West Princessa buoy off the Forelands area of Bembridge, a spokesman said.

Launching at 11.45pm, the Bembridge Tamar class lifeboat Alfred Albert Williams was alongside the yacht ten minutes later in a strong north westerley Force 5 and 6 wind and rough sea state.

With the falling tide making recovery to Bembridge harbour an impossibility, a tow was established and the yacht was taken to the Haslar Marina inside Portsmouth harbour at 2am.
