Yacht saved from sinking

BEMBRIDGE Lifeboat was called to assist a 38ft yacht in danger of sinking in severe weather on Monday.

Portsmouth Lifeboat was already at the scene in The Solent, a mile south of Langstone Harbour, where the yacht Octavia, with four people on board was taking in water.

Winds gusting to 40 knots caused a heavy sea swell, as Bembridge crewman Simon Cooper was transferred onto the troubled vessel to pump out the water while it was towed in.

"Being able to assist our flank station at Portsmouth is all part of the family ethos of the RNLI," said coxswain Steve Simmonds.
