A YOUNG woman was assaulted by a group of youths as she walked home along an Isle of Wight footpath.
Police said the 22-year-old was approached by a number of youngsters who assaulted her and stole items from her handbag including £15 in cash, a bottle of Rose Echo Falls wine, tobacco, Ted Baker perfume and make up.
The attack happened at Fern Cliff, near to the entrance of Battery Gardens, Sandown, between 9.30pm and 10.30pm on Friday, last week.
The victim suffered minor injuries including cuts and grazes but declined medical attention.
Investigating officer DC Russell of Newport CID said: "Incidents of this type are extremely rare on the Isle of Wight, but residents are urged to consider their personal safety when walking around at night and where possible stay to main routes and be with other people."
