VOLUNTEERS, businesses and community groups are being invited to take over youth services on the Isle of Wight.

It follows an Isle of Wight Council decision in April to shift services from direct control.

The council has a budget of £200,000 for this year, rising to £400,000 in the following two years, to provide funding for volunteers, businesses and other community groups to run activities.

Funding is available to provide services for people aged between 11 and 19. The council is also keen to promote provision for disadvantaged groups on the Island and those with additional needs up to the age of 25.

Isle of Wight Council executive member for children’s services and education Cllr Richard Priest said it was an opportunity to create an innovative and tailor-made youth service.

The closing date for applications is June 30, 2014. Interested parties and successful applicants will be supported by the community youth offer development officer, who can be contacted on (01983) 539375.

The youth offer prospectus and application form can be downloaded here.
