FILMMAKER Murray Lerner, whose documentaries helped cement the IW Festival’s place in music folklore, has died aged 90.
Lerner’s iconic footage of the 1970 IW Festival features performances from some of the biggest names in music, including Bob Dylan, Miles Davies and Jimi Hendrix.
Lerner used the footage to create a series of respected documentaries, including Message to Love: The IW Festival, Blue Wild Angel: Jimi Hendrix at the IW and Leonard Cohen: Live At The IW 1970.
According to Rolling Stone magazine, the 90-year-old New Yorker, had been working on a new film about Joni Mitchell’s IW Festival set in which she was heckled by the crowd and broke down.
