Parents, governing bodies and community groups have got until the end of July to express their views on plans to change the admissions procedure for Harrow's high schools.

The council has been discussing changes to the system because 350 more pupils will need high school places by 2001.

There has been an increase in the number of pupils at primary schools, caused by a rise in the birthrate, and the current system is becoming unworkable, the council has admitted.

But previous consultations over the past two years have not resulted in support for the new systems auggested. Whitchurch Middle School in Stanmore, which opened in 1996, has still no agreed links with a high school.

The council said a final decision had to be made soon, and two models need to be considered: a revised link scheme and a revised priority roads scheme.

Written responses should be sent to: Geoff Wingrove, Education Officer, Education Department, Civic Centre, Station Road, Harrow, HA1 2UW, by July 31.

The proposals are on display at every school and library in the borough, and in the education reception area of the Civic Centre.
