Blind golfer Ron Tomlinson of Woodford Green has set a new record by becoming the first golfer to win the Cowdrey Shield three years in a row.

Tomlinson, guided by his wife Stephanie, scored 34 points, finishing three shots ahead of Neil Baxter from North Weald, in the event at Deangate Ridge Golf Club, Kent.

It was a big achievement, said a delighted Ron. The standard is always very high, and almost all the golfers in the field are capable of winning.

It was a tricky course but I managed to keep out of the rough and stay on the fairways.

The greens had just been spiked so putting was difficult, but it was the same for everyone.

Rons next challenge will be the Ken Venturi Guiding Eyes Classic next month, when he represents England in New York and he faces a busy schedule up until then.

Ive got to cut short my trip to America to play in the British Open at Bournemouth, he revealed.

It means missing out on the celebrity day of that event but I still get two days of golf in over there.

The British Open will be a truly international event with entries expected from all over the world.

Again, its over a difficult course but Ron is confident he can do well.
