SCIENTIST and co-owner of the famous Lilliput Antique Doll and Toy Museum in Brading, Graham Kenneth Mun-day, died at Southampton General Hospital on September 19, after a long illness, aged 69.
Born in Lyndhurst, Hampshire, on August 28, 1948, he was the elder of two children to Leonard and Margaret Munday, of Seaview.
Mr Munday left school to join the former Atomic Research Establishment at Harwell, Oxford, at which, for three consecutive years, he was awarded the prize for being top student. He then joined the Water Research Centre, near Henley, Oxfordshire, as a science officer.
But in 1974, just a few weeks before his parents were to open the Lilliput Antique Doll and Toy Museum, his father died unexpectedly and he returned to the Island to assist his mother in running the attraction.
He eventually assumed total responsibility for the running of the cottage museum in 1989, assisted by his wife, Jackie, who he married at High Wycombe Register Office, Buckinghamshire, in 1976.
The museum — acknowledged as being one of the finest and most important collections in the country, with more than 2,000 exhibits on display — was formed from the private doll collection of the Munday family, which started in 1960.
Mr Munday, of High Street, Brading, was described by his wife as an expert in computer technology, who had a love of music, inherited from his father, and who was devoted to his German shepherd dogs.
Mr Munday leaves his wife and sister, Katherine Wood.
His funeral will take place at Springwood Woodland Cemetery, Newchurch, at 1.30pm on Tuesday.
