Mr Harold Ernest Moody.
HAROLD Ernest Moody, a well-known Newport farmer, has died while working on his land, aged 75.
Born on September 10, 1933, to Ernest and Annie Moody, he attended schools at Northwood and Cowes.
He quickly developed a lifelong interest in machinery and a love for working in the fields.
Mr Moody worked first on the farm where he was born, Werrar Farm, the milk from which was delivered to homes in Newport and Parkhurst every day, and then on Chawton Farm, which he ran with his wife, Shirley, whom he married in 1958.
Even after he sold Chawton Farm and moved to Horsebridge Hill with his family, he kept some of the land and worked there up until his death. He entered many ploughing matches and won several.
Mr Moody was a keen football fan and helped set up the IW Sunday League in 1968, becoming chairman in 1990.
He was a life president of the IW FA and Hampshire FA, and a member of Osborne Lodge, serving as worshipful master in 1993.
He leaves his widow, children Hazel, Carol and Rob, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
His funeral, held at Newport Methodist Church on Tuesday last week and followed by a wake at Northwood Cricket Club, was attended by around 300 people.
