"Promotion it is not the be all of what we are about. We all want Esher to be successful but not at the cost of losing our social fun-loving reputation. "

So says Esher RFC 1st XV boss David Page, as he looks forward to the club's 75th anniversary.

"I have seen many clubs in the top flight lose that club atmosphere that we so much depend on at Esher," he continued.

"This is a big season for us, not only are we celebrating our 75th anniversary but we are, in the eyes of a lot of people, the favourites for promotion. That will not go to our head.

"It is a credit to the club that we have again attracted a wealth of talented players from many clubs across the country. These include Ali Meadows, Ciaran Bird and Richard Bailey from London Irish (Richard joins his brother at the club). Simon Owen and James Baird from London Scottish. Duncan Roe from Rosslyn Park, Jason Ash and Charlie Bailey from top northern clubs. We also welcome James Butterworth, brother of Mark, a regular last season. James joins along with Dick Busby from Old Mid-Wives.

"We have also attracted players moving to London from as far a field as Australia. (Welcome home Richard Clements).

"We also welcome our new sponsor, Virgin Radio, which takes over from Ginger. We have also a new shirt supplier in Mizuno and a new exciting playing strip will be on show.

"Watch out for the Esher Virgins."

*The season begins with a home match against Redruth on Saturday. A season ticket to see all home league games is available for £30, a saving of £10.
