Pat Ledicott
FORMER firefighter Patrick Ledicott has died, aged 82.
He was born in Newport and after leaving school became an apprentice mechanic at garage Canning Day.
He did his National Service in the army, where his first posting was to Aberdeen.
After completing his two years’ service, Mr Ledicott, who lived in Bowcombe Road, Carisbrooke, rejoined Canning Day as a mechanic.
In 1950, he joined the fire service, firstly as a retained firefighter and three years later he became a full-time firefighter.
After 28 years in the fire service, he worked for a further 12 years as brigade storeman until he retired.
Mr Ledicott, who died on Sunday, July 18, leaves his wife, Audrey, and his eldest sister, Frances.
The funeral service will be held on Monday at St John’s Church, Newport, at 2pm.
