Borehamwood SC 2

West Herts League

Borehamwood Social Club U17s lost their unbeaten record as they went down 4-2 in the battle of the top two at Evergreen in the West Herts League.

In a titanic struggle that saw seven players booked, Wood dominated most of the first half.

With honours even at half-time, it took a mistake to produce the opening goal in the first minute of the second period. Gary Bishop, who had an outstanding game, was caught in possession, and the Evergreen forward strode on to beat keeper Dan Caskie with a low shot.

Wood went after the equaliser, but Sarel Sahbaz was denied by a superb save from the keeper.

Evergreen were then awarded a 70th minute penalty for what the referee deemed a push on a player from a corner, and Caskie had no chance of saving the well placed spot kick.

Bishop pulled one back five minutes later, flicking in a corner by Liam Doran.

But instead of grabbing an equaliser, Social gave away two goals in quick succession through slack marking and failing to react to loose balls.

But Borehamwood never gave up, and pulled another goal back in the last minute through captain Doran.

This defeat leaves Social still three points clear, but Evergreen have a game in hand. It promises to be an interesting battle between them for the rest of the season.

Borehamwood Social Club: D Caskie, L Doran, A Surry, D Cunnington, G Gillings, S Sahbaz, M Coleman, G Bishop, M Bush, G Purdy, P Russell.
