Mrs Marjorie Olwyn Fryer

A KEEN darts player who won many titles, Marjorie Olwyn Fryer, has died, aged 75.

Born in Islington, London, Mrs Fryer was evacuated to Mevagissey, Cornwall, during the Second World War.

At 14, she moved back to London and attended Pitman College to study shorthand typing, before joining Abbey National as a secretary.

Mrs Fryer married her late husband, Terry, in Wood Green, London, in 1964 and the couple moved to the Island the same year.

They lived in Cynthia Grove, Newport, where Mrs Fryer stayed until she died.

She worked at McFisheries restaurant in Newport, which is now  Oggies, as well as R. G. Staggs sweetshop.

Mrs Fryer played darts at the Princess Royal pub, Newport, and won many titles. She leaves her sister, Doreen, son, Keith, daughter, Kathryn, and seven grandchildren.  Her funeral takes place at the IW Crematorium next Friday, July 10, at 2.15pm.
