More than 100 residents bought fire alarms during the event which saw London Fire Brigade teaming-up with Woolworth's to offer elderly people reduced-price smoke detectors.
Mr Stone said: "Woolworth's sold out of fire alarms but we gave out leaflets and people can go along some other time to buy them. Everyone said they had smoke alarms but it was what to do in a fire where people came unstuck."
