SOMETIMES you should let your heart rule your head, especially in the case of the stunning new Honda Civic.

When times are tough, every penny counts but, in my opinion, you will get more than your money’s worth with the new Civic, which I found so difficult to give back to Northwood Honda.

The sleek and striking Civic 2.2 i-DTEC not only looked amazing, it was superb to drive and I was like a little boy in sweet shop — I never wanted to get out of it.

Its quiet diesel engine was so quick — the car took off — and there was no better feeling than being put back in my seat when I put my foot down.

It wasn’t just the Civic’s performance that stood out. Its new features, such as the C-shaped rear light cluster and front LED daytime lights, looked great.

The Civic is more efficient than ever, helped by its idle stop and eco assist systems, plus a new front grille.

The idle stop cut out the engine when the car came to a standstill, saving fuel and reducing emissions, while the eco assist provided a colour-changing facility to show me how efficiently I was driving.

Meanwhile, the grille has been designed to close tighter in high speeds to reduce air resistance, further improving fuel economy.

Add to that a new suspension system, making for an ultra-smooth ride and the nice personal touch of having your own digital photo album on the dash.
