AWARD FOR STORES: Two Croydon retailers have been made the first recipients of the Croydon Breastfeeding Friendly Awards. Judges decided Mothercare and WH Smith provided comfortable and appropriate areas where mothers can breastfeed their babies.

SEARCH FOR BUDGIE: A distraught family are trying to track down Brandy the Budgie after he flew his West Croydon coop on Sunday morning. Anyone who spots the friendly yellow and green two-year-old is asked to call 020 8409 2136.

BARGAIN SALE: Bryon Junior School is holding its annual jumble sale at The Red Lion pub, Brighton Road, Coulsdon on Saturday, May 20. Doors open at 11am and all proceeds will go towards buying picnic benches and play equipment for the Coulsdon school.

TRADERS FINED: Four shopkeepers who sold cigarettes and fireworks to children were ordered to pay a total of £3,000 when they appeared at Croydon Magistrates' Court earlier this month. The court heard how during routine test purchasing involving 13 and 15-year-olds last October, the four broke trading standards regulations.

DONOR DATE: St Mildred's Church Hall in Addiscombe becomes a temporary blood donor station on Monday, June 5. The Bingham Road venue will be taking donations from 2pm to 4.30pm and 5.30pm to 7.45pm.
