LOCAL swimming clubs went on a medal winning-frenzy in the first meet of the New Year.

Amersham Swimming Club travelled to Aylesbury for the Maxwell Club's open meet and came back loaded with 13 golds, three silvers and two bronzes.

Meanwhile, Wycombe District Swimming Club won 10 gold, 18 silver and 14 bronze, with two county junior records broken and ten national age group qualifying times achieved.

Joelle Jeans in the 13/14 age group and 12-year-old Jenifer Howard were the heroes for Amersham with three wins apiece.

Jeans bagged golds in the 50, 100 and 200 metres freestyle events, with a superb national qualifying time in the 100m of 59.97 seconds.

Howard's successes were in the 200m freestyle, 200m backstroke and 100m freestyle.

Hannah Shaw, 12, and Josh Privett, ten, both got two golds each, with Privett breaking two meet records on the way to his wins in the 200m individual medley and 50m breaststroke.

Other golds were won by Katie Towers in the 13/14 age group 200m backstroke, Sarah Chamberlain, in the 13/14 age 100m breaststroke and Kate Antrobus won the in the 17+ age category

For Wycombe District, Alex Vine, 16, grabbed the headlines, with four golds and two silvers, smashing his own county junior record on the way to winning the 200 metres butterfly.

Eighteen-year-old Daniel Bennett was the breaststroke king, winning the 100 and 200m breaststroke, as well as getting a record in the 50m.

Other gold medallists were Nicholas Grover, 17, who won the 200m backstroke and also grabbed a silver and two bronzes, Michael Sturgess, 17, who won the 100m freestyle and a silver and bronze, and Ben Waddy, 17, whose three-medal haul included a gold in the 50m freestyle.

Day two featured more golds for Amersham, with Privett, Chamberlain, Howard and Jeans all winning again, as well as Katie Ambridge and Andrea Poore grabbing golds.
