The Surrey pool squad travelled to Chatham to take on Kent last week for what promised to be a mid-season showdown. And, although the Kent squad included reigning World Champion Carl Morris, England player Ian Hubbard, reigning World Junior Champion Kurt Morris and England Ladies Team players Liesa Conlin and Julie Fane, the Surrey teams produced several good results.

The Surrey Ladies Team produced the win of the day by dispatching Kent Ladies 27-17. Sara Smith and Debbie Lambert both won four out of four games to claim the player of the match trophy, while Anita Pembery, Amanda Crowson, Claire McKee and Sue O'Donnell helped the cause by only losing one game each.

The Surrey Men's A Team was not so lucky and did well to hang on to ensure Kent only won by 25-19. Richard Lambert was man of the match with four wins out of four, while Kevin O'Connor, currently number-one ranked in the region, won three out of four.

The Surrey Men's B Team fought out a 22-22 draw against Kent Men's B Team.

Matt Cooke, Jim Miles, Steve Counter, Steve Johnson and man of the match Chris Gentry all won three frames. The Surrey Men's C Team also won against the Kent C Team, this time 25-19. Their star players were Neal Rolfe, Simon Bywater, Jamie Whitnell and Mark Frost who all won three games.

So, midway through the season, the Men's C Team top their league table and all the other Surrey teams lie in second place. This means that all teams are well poised to deliver some silverware for team sponsors Transcribe.

The next county match is on Sunday, July 12, at Connaught Leisure, Worthing, when Surrey play Sussex.
