CROSSWAYS offers the perfect blend of traditional and modern style, set against a countryside backdrop.

The original part of this beautifully presented detached cottage, in Newport Road, Apse Heath, was built in 1832, when it was a simple thatched two-up, two-down, late Georgian building.

Further extensions were added in the late 1800s and again in around 1984 to create a much larger home.

The present owners moved to Crossways in 2006 and have done considerable amounts of work on the house and garden.

Inside, they set about sympathetically opening up the rooms to make them lighter and more inviting, while preserving some of the beams and the chunky oak mantle over the inglenook fireplace and multi-fuel stove in the lounge.

They completely overhauled the lighting in the lounge and introduced an innovatively designed, zoned lighting system with an ambient-lit inglenook fireplace, which creates a really cosy feel in the evening.

The cream tones of the lounge are continued into the spacious dining room, which is accented in duck-egg blue.

The kitchen has cream units, with beech block worksurfaces, plus a range of appliances, including a gas hob and electric oven.

There is an elegant double bedroom on the ground floor, which is perfect for elderly or less mobile visitors.

The study teams cosy creams with a pale mulberry shade, while the ground floor also offers a bathroom with toilet and shower cubicle.

There are several lobby areas and storage cupboards and the present owners have also added a gorgeous conservatory, which has electric underfloor heating and is used all year.

Upstairs, there are three double bedrooms, with part sloping ceilings and countryside views, plus a dressing room/nursery and beautiful bathroom, with a white pedestal bath with deluge shower, white panelled walls and contrasting blue tiling.

Outside, the present owners have created a stunning garden, with an eye-catching blend of perennials, shrubs, trees, fragrant herbs and vegetables.

The garden is surrounded by hedges to break the wind, offer an extra buffer against any road noise and provide additional privacy.

Some of the dramatically shaped ancient fruit trees have been kept to add interest to the garden and there are several hidden areas to sit quietly, plus a table and chairs for al fresco dining.

There is a bird garden, which is frequented by wild birds and the odd squirrel, plus a nature pond and numerous vegetable patches.

The garden also includes a greenhouse, a summerhouse cum potting shed and a fully insulated home office/studio with power and telephone.

The gardens border open farmland and Crossways also has a driveway and parking for several vehicles.
