MORE than 40 swimmers at Grange Paddocks pool and gym took the plunge in a BT Swimathon to raise money for charity.

The swimmers, of all ages, raised more than £2,500 for the Marie Curie Cancer Care and other charities, by making a charity splash at the pool in Rye Street, Bishop's Stortford on Sunday.

Eighteen individuals, plus 11 teams swimming in relay, completed one of the BT Swimathon distances of 5,000m (just over three miles), 2,500m and 1,500m.

Supervisor Chris Pollard said: "I must congratulate every swimmer at Grange Paddocks for all their effort and determination in taking part.

"Also to the members of Bishop's Stortford Lifesaving Club and the staff of Grange Paddocks who volunteered themselves as lap counters for the event."
