Tring Tornadoes 12

West Herts League

After last week's first round triumph Athletic were brought back to earth with a bump by a well-organised and more experienced side.

Athletic went into the match fielding a half strength team and were struck a massive blow when striker Darren Oxley's clash with the Tring keeper saw him taken to hospital to treat a damaged knee.

With Oxley absent it was left to the rest to salvage the game - they did so by launching attacks on the Tring goal - but to no avail.

And the soggy conditions did not help matters for Athletic who also missed chances.

Athletic are a team who have faced adversity in their short life and have lashings of good spirits to fall back on. This was demonstrated when midfielder Jamie Campbell joked man of the match ought to go to the Athletic goal -- as it had so much of the ball.

Athletic's coach Steve Berry said: "The lads dug deep and did their best. That's all you can ask of them. They know they have it in them to go up a league next season and they'll put today's game down to experience."

He added Athletic will approach their next game in the same erstwhile manner they employ for all their matches -- positive.
