A time capsule packed with telling symbols of our age - coins, stamps, sophisticated electronic equipment and a Spice Girls video - was buried by Croydon Mayor, Councillor Pat Ryan, to mark the opening of a new state-of-the-art library.

The Broad Green Library in West Croydon boasts some 30,000 books and tapes as well as access to the Internet, Croydon Online, CD Roms, e-mail and multi-media PCs.

The whole Canterbury Road site is fully accessible to people with disabilities and holds collections that were not held by its predecessor, Mitcham Road Library.
