RUGBY Fareham Heathens 15, IW 24
IN A hastily-arranged practice match, the IW were entertained by Fareham Heathens on Saturday.
Playing three sets of 25 minutes, the IW experimented with the introduction of some of the younger squad members and with new members.
Early IW pressure allowed them a kick to within 15m of the home side’s line. A good line-out take and drive opened the blind side for Coleman Cotter to skittle over.
IW then conceded two penalties for offside and paid as Heathens drove over.
However they bounced back quickly after Adam Leal was released from a line-out move to score.
A further try ensued as ball was again quickly recycled for Ian Puzey to score. Neil Brading added the kick.
The second session was dominated by Heathens as they twice scored tries as the IW seemed to switch off.
But in the final session they came back into the game with another try, Ali Gates crashing over and Brading added the conversion.
Tomorrow (Saturday), the IW has another practice match at home before both teams start on their league and merit campaigns.
