RUGBYYOUNG rugby players are putting the IW on the map after being selected to represent the county — and a top London club.
Vectis Colts’ Aidan Price, 18, brother Kemp, 16, and Haydn Ambler, 18, who all go to Sandown Bay Academy, and Oli Pestell, 18, a student at Portsmouth Grammar School, have been selected for Hampshire after impressing for their side.
And things could get even better for Kemp after he had trials for the London Irish advanced academy in sporting excellence — the same academy which another former Colt, Guy Entwistle, is now attending.
He will find out if he has been successful in the new year.
Meanwhile, Brockenhurst College student and another former Colt, Will Yates, 18, has been selected to play for Scottish Exiles’ under-20 academy team in Guildford in the new year.
Will, who now plays for Brockenhurst’s first team, was picked for the Exiles squad after taking part in training sessions near London. He was picked for the sessions after the Exiles followed his progress and liked what they saw.
All five players started their rugby careers at their schools, and joined Vectis to help and develop the skills they had already learned.
Martin Yates, of the Vectis Colts, said: "All the lads would all like to say a big thank you to their team mates, who have helped get the them to the stage they are now, and the coaches, managers and parents."
