RUGBYFawley II 27, IW II 29
A SEE-SAW struggle at Fawley went the way of IW II, who overcame a long list of injuries and unavailability to earn their first away win of the season in Merit Three.
IW missed an early penalty and were made to pay when, while caught napping a blindside move, Fawley’s scored a converted try.
Thankfully IW’s response was swift, as Kieran Leahy and Tom Enticknap combined well down the right to set up a try and conversion for Gary Warvill.
Fawley capitalised on some poor tackling to score a second try but again IW came back, as Tim Coates went over for another converted effort, to make it 14-14 at the break.
Fawley were first to score in the second half, opening up a seven-point lead. However, Dan Taylor quickly pinned them back, intercepting a stray pass in midfield for a great individual try. Warvill then added his second touchdown with a superb break. He added the extras and IW led 26-21.
The last quarter contained no tries, but plenty of determined defence from IW helped to make it so, as Mike Dalchow and Nick Joyce were among those to make important tackles.
Fawley kicked two penalties in the last 15 minutes, sandwiching a vital Warvill penalty which ensured victory.
